Further into town and we reach the famous sights we all know and love: the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and its stunning orange-coloured dome – the most recognisable sight in Florence, designed by Brunelleschi; a little further south, Piazza della Signoria – the seat of political power in the old republic of Florence and, for a very brief period (1865-70), the seat of Italy’s first parliament.

If arriving by air to Florence International Airport (Amerigo Vespucci), regular shuttle buses to Santa Maria Novella Train Station run throughout the day, dropping passengers off on Via Santa Caterina da Siena nearby (see the map above).

From here the Palazzo Ricasoli is a walk of about 15 minutes or a taxi journey of about 5 minutes. Use the map above to guide you.

A taxi directly from the airport should cost no more than €15 though it is advisable to establish a rough estimate for price before departing.

Arriving by road - in a few words

From the ring road enter by Firenze Nord or Firenze Sud depending on which direction you’re coming from. Follow signs for Firenze-Centro and Via S. Lavagnini. The Palazzo Ricasoli has an entrance on Via Lavagnini at number 11A. Private secure parking is available within the hotel grounds at a price of €20 per day.
